"The Beatles Now and Then" |

In 1964, Scottish photojournalist Harry Benson was asked to accompany a relatively unknown band on its first trip to America. That band was the Beatles, and the successful trip made rock-n-roll history. The association he formed with the members of the band continues to this day, and the relationship has been responsible for the creation of numerous photos of the band, the individual musicians and their families for the last 35 years. Mr. Benson's book contains photographs that range from 1964 to 1998, and illustrate the group's rise to fame on its first American tour, its growing worldwide popularity and the careers and family lives of individual members. Harry Benson's photographs appear frequently in magazines such as Life, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Paris Match, People, and other publications. He has twice been named Magazine Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association, twice received the Leica Medal of Excellence, has won the Overseas Press Club Madeline Dane Ross Award, and was given the 1996 PMDA Professional Photographer Award. His work is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC. His books include the best selling "The Beatles: In the Beginning," "Harry Benson's People," "Harry Benson on Photojournalism," and "First Families: An Intimate Portrait from JFK to Clinton." Shown below are some of the photos of the book signing for his new book, "The Beatles Now and Then," that were taken at Casa Salazar Art Gallery during the month of November, 1998. |
